Bold and Beautiful: Using Vibrant Colours in Event Design

Bold. Energetic. Vivid. Vibrant.

These are the hues that will dominate weddings, parties, and events in 2024. Expect stunning, striking colour palettes that elicit energy and joy.

Here, we’ll look at some of the hottest party colours of 2024 and tips on how to incorporate them into your event design.

7 of the Hottest Party, Event, and Wedding Colours of 2024

Your colour palette impacts the entire mood of your event. The right colour pairings can create a welcoming, radiant atmosphere that matches the mood you want to convey.

If you love impactful colour choices, here are some of the best ways to incorporate bold colours into event design.

1. Sunny Yellows and Oranges

I’m kicking off the list with one of the hottest colour trends in the design world: cheery, warm, vibrant yellows and oranges.

These energetic, show-stopping colours will be big in event design in 2024, especially for spring and summer events.

Inspired by the beauty of sunsets, this colour palette relies on shades of warm oranges, bright peaches, radiant yellows, sparkling tangerines, and glowing corals to infuse the essence of nature into your event.

Sunshine yellows, energetic apricot shades, corals, bright peach hues, and sunset oranges add a captivating luminosity to the decor without being overpowering or too loud.

For fall events, expect a slight shift in these tones to warmer shades such as terracotta, rusty oranges, citrine, and mustard yellows.

You can go all out by infusing bold yellows and oranges into a variety of design elements or keep it softer with subtle design touches, such as:

  • Coloured glass accents
  • Gold flatware
  • Soft yellow taper candles
  • Coloured linens

2. Bright Pinks

I’ve seen softer pinks, such as blush and rose have their reign as some of the most popular wedding colours. But 2024 will be the year of saturated pinks, such as hot pink and fuschia.

Pink is peppy and fun while also being chic, elegant, and romantic. It offers a bold design that doesn’t take itself too seriously, making it perfect for summer weddings, parties, and events.

Bright pinks are versatile and easy to work with, allowing you to go as bold and dramatic or as subtle as you’d like for your event design.

To add brightness and peppiness to your celebration, try incorporating bright pink tones with:

  • A stunning floral wall
  • A statement-making arch adorned with bright pink, oversized flowers
  • A simple cake accent
  • A bouquet featuring pops of hot pinks
  • Linen napkins
  • Personalised menus
  • Centrepieces with hints of bright pinks

3. Vivacious Reds

It’s hard to find a more romantic colour than red, making it ideal for weddings throughout the year. Bold, statement-making reds are also ideal for corporate events and other celebrations, adding energy and vibrancy to gatherings.

To add brilliance to your event, consider deep roses, fiery reds, vivacious magentas, and terracotta shades. Incorporate red in bouquets, archways, linens, napkins, cakes, signage, and tabletop decor for a vibrant, elegant result.

4. Lime Greens

Get ready for the ultimate show-stopping colour of 2024 event design: lime green.

While I don’t expect it to reign as the hottest wedding colour of the year, lime green will steal the spotlight in plenty of birthday parties, celebrations, and corporate events in 2024.

Lime green is about as fun, vibrant, high energy, and dramatic as a colour can get. So if you’re looking for a truly memorable colour palette, lime green is worth considering.

Lime green pairs well with a surprising number of colours, including white, fuchsia, bright oranges, yellows, pinks, and purples.

Use lime green to add a punch of colour and excitement, energy, and vibrancy to your event with decor details such as:

  • Neon signs
  • Disco balls
  • Tablecloths or linen napkins
  • Confetti
  • Floral arrangements with some of the flowers spray-painted with bold lime hues
  • Add citrus fruits, including limes, to table decor (yes, fruit as accents is one of the biggest event design trends of 2024)

For a similar impact with less commitment, opt for a slightly subdued version of this striking hue by using pear and matcha green hues instead.

If you want to go all out, consider adding bright yellows to lime green for the ultimate lively, creative mix of hues.

5. Mid-Tone Blues

Blue is a classic-feel good hue that can be incorporated into any event for a cheerful yet tranquil aesthetic.

Gorgeous bold blue shades to consider include:

  • Royal blue
  • Cobalt blue
  • Denim blue
  • Rich teals
  • Vivid aquas

Rich, bold blues pair especially well with black, bright whites, silver, and softer, airy blues. For the boldest combo, saturated blues are an ideal complement to bright yellows. Try out this colour palette through a bouquet of yellow roses, baby’s breath, and mid-tone blue hues.

6. Richer, Bolder Neutrals

Bold, rich, and deep may not be what comes to mind when you think of neutral colour palettes. But 2024 just might change that.

Grey, beige, cream and crisp white are timeless, chic colour options. But this year, we’ll see richer, more striking neutrals with added depth thanks to deep brown tones, chocolate tones, forest greens, and intriguing black tones.

These bold shades still elicit the calming, balanced response of a neutral palette, but with more visual interest and personality.

Combining standard neutrals with chocolate browns or intriguing black hues creates a cosy, intimate atmosphere that lends itself well to fall and winter weddings or events.

To further embolden neutral palettes, add textures and patterns that increase visual interest and add dimension, such as:

  • Leather accents and details
  • Metallic accents
  • Luxurious coloured linens

7. Soft Purples Contrasted with Striking Accent Colours

Airy. Soft. Delicate.

Lilacs, periwinkle, and lavender hues are ideal for creating a calming, tranquil atmosphere.

But if you want to embolden these muted purples, try adding striking contrast colours such as emerald, black, or deep blues.

Pairing lavender or lilac with interesting black hues or deep purples adds depth and visual interest for a unique, vibrant result.

I especially love this colour palette for winter weddings or corporate events.

For a gorgeous winter bouquet, pair muted purple and blue tones with silvery accent pieces and pops of deep purples and blues.

Tips on Creating Your Colour Palette

Here’s a quick glance at four different colour palettes to help you decide how to incorporate bold, stand-out colours into your event design:

Triadic Color Palette — This high-contrast scheme consists of three colours equally distanced from each other on the colour wheel. This palette is often high-impact and high-energy and can feel overwhelming, so I mostly recommend this for birthday parties, celebrations, or less formal corporate events.

Analogous Colour Palettes — Pick one mainer colour and pair it with two colours right next to it on the colour wheel to complement it (for instance, royal blue could be your main colour, accented with turquoise and blue-violet)

Monochromatic Colour Palette — Monochromatic palettes consist of one main shade highlighted by various tones and shades of the same colour. The result is a clean, classic, timeless look that is ideal for weddings and corporate events.

Complementary Colour Palette — Complementary colour palettes are extremely popular and incredibly versatile. This colour palette is achieved by pairing two colours that are directly opposite of each other on the colour wheel (i.e. blues and yellows). Complementary colour palettes create a bold aesthetic that sets the stage for a vibrant, high-energy event.
